Sketching Beauty

These past weeks of early spring I could have been sketching every day, just in my own neighborhood. The flowers and budding trees have been absolutely beautiful! Instead, I sketched once in Vienna (where I visited my sister in early February) and twice here in Lancaster--at the beautiful, elaborate, expensive conservatory of Longwood Gardens and at the far less cultivated Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve.

The flowers are so neat -- are those Lenten roses in the last Longwood Gardens picture? ...I really like the trillium, Virginia bluebells, jack-in-the-pulpit....

No, light blue poppies! It was during their "blue festival" of all kinds of blue flowers in one of the main atriums. I may do another post of photos from that day, which will show the poppy color.

These are so lovely! Do they have a "blue festival" every year? I adore blue flowers - might need to come up and see it next year.

Frances, check out the slideshow (may have to click on the dots at the bottom of the initial photo to see the other photos) here: https://longwoodgardens.org/events-performances/music-performances-theater/winter-blues-festival. And, yes, please come up and see it with me next year. I think it runs every year from January - March, but I'm not positive.
